List of athletes to participate in 2023 European Games unveiled
The list of Karate athletes to take part in the 2023 European Games is now confirmed. After the celebration of the 2023 EKF Senior Championships this past week, the name of the karateka to represent the sport in the event has been unveiled.
All the 96 qualifying places to compete at the European Games have been confirmed, now that the 2023 EKF Senior Championships concluded this past weekend. No less than 34 countries will be represented at the Karate competition of the 2023 European Games.
World champions Steven Dacosta of France, Gogita Arkania of Georgia, Irina Zaretska of Azerbaijan, and Maria Torres of Spain will be among the frontrunners in Poland.
In addition to the newly-crowned European champions, the event will also have a host of Olympians fighting for gold. Olympic silver medallists Damian Quintero of Spain, Eray Samdan of Turkiye, and Anzhelika Terliuga of Ukraine, as well as Olympic Games bronze medallist Bettina Plank of Austria, and Olympians Dilara Bozan and Serap Ozcelik Arapoglu of Turkiye, Anita Serogina of Ukraine, Elena Quirici of Switzerland, and Silvia Semeraro of Italy, among others, will try to prevail at the event.
The Karate competition of the 2023 European Games will be held from June 22 to 23 in Bielsko-Biala. It will be Karate’s third appearance at the European Games, after the editions of 2015 in Baku and 2019 in Minsk.
No less than 23 countries went home with medals at the 2019 edition in Minsk, with Spain topping the final medal table of the Karate competition with three gold medals, followed by Italy and Ukraine with two golds each.
