All you need to know about record-breaking Karate 1 Youth League Venice

The last Karate 1-Youth League event of the season will be held this weekend in Venice (Italy). Scheduled for December 9 to 11, the tournament will be the most-attended event of the season.

WHAT

  • The 2022 Karate 1-Youth League Venice is the last event of the season after the successful competitions in Acapulco, Limassol, and Porec.
  • The season of international events for youngsters started in Acapulco (Mexico) from January 20 to 23.
  • Limassol (Cyprus) hosted the second event of the season from April 29 to May 01.
  • The 2022 Karate 1-Youth League then stopped in Porec (Croatia) from July 1 to 3.
  • The Karate 1-Youth League is a competition conceived to highlight the impact of Karate at young ages. Established under the umbrella of Karate 1 and designed to complete Karate 1-Premier League and Karate 1-Series A, the Karate 1-Youth League is a platform for the development of youngsters in their quest to progress in the sport.

WHERE

  • The event will take place in Venice (Italy), at the Palazzo del Turismo.
  • Venice has established its status as a major hub of Karate as it has hosted Karate 1-Youth League events since 2019.
  • The mythical Italian city is set to welcome the World Cadet, Junior & U21 Championships in 2024.

WHEN

  • The tournament is scheduled for December 9 to 11.  
  • Starting on Friday, December 9 at 09:00 (local time GMT +1) the competition it will continue throughout the weekend until Sunday when the event will conclude at 19:00 (local time).
  • The finals will be held at the end of each competition day.

WHO

  • Over 2500 athletes from 58 countries have registered to participate in the event.
  • Hosts of Italy present the largest delegation with 660 participants. Powerhouse nations Ukraine with 161 and Germany with 142 athletes also bring numerous delegations to the event.
  • This tally represents a record of participation this season and makes the #Karate1Venice the most-attended event of the year.
  • Last year over 2000 athletes from 52 countries participated in the event.

HOW

  • The competition follows a knockout format.
  • The event comprises 31 categories and it is destined for competitors aged 12 to 17.

  • The finals of the event will be available LIVE on the WKF YouTube channel.
  • The title-deciding bouts are scheduled to start at the end of each competition day around 21.00 (local time).
