WHAT

The Karate 1-Premier League Salzburg is the third event of the season after the tournaments in Paris (France) and Dubai (UAE). Comprising the most important Karate competitions in the world, the Karate 1-Premier League is a series of first-class events that bring together the best Karate athletes in the world.

WHERE

The venue where the Karate 1-Premier League Salzburg will be held is Sporthalle Alpenstraße (address: Otto-Holzbauer-Straße 5 (Alpenstraße), Salzburg).

Tickets are available at 12€ for the three-day event.

WHEN

WHO

Over 600 competitors from 88 countries are registered to participate in the Karate 1-Premier League Salzburg. All the defending Grand Winners and all the current World champions with the exception of Ryo Kiyuna will compete in Salzburg.

HOW

The Karate 1-Premier League Salzburg is one of the last events that qualify for the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. The points at stake in Salzburg will be essential in defining the competitors who will win the Olympic tickets by standings.

Competitors taking gold in Salzburg will receive between 870 and 990 points, depending on the category and the number of bouts.

- Salzburg has hosted Karate 1-Series A events the last three seasons.

- The last time that Salzburg welcomed a Karate 1-Premier League event was in 2016. Previously, the city in Austria had hosted Karate 1-Premier League events since 2012.

- Japan topped the medal table of the event in Salzburg in 2016 with 10 medals and five golds. Hosts of Austria with five medals and two golds and Serbia with four medals and two golds also registered deserving performances. Stars Kiyou Shimizu of Japan, Alexandra Grande of Peru, Ayumi Uekusa of Japan, Antonio Diaz of Venezuela, Vinicius Figueira of Brazil and Ryutaro Araga of Japan were among the gold medallists at the 2016 Karate 1-Premier League Salzburg. Alisa Buchinger was one of the big winners of the event as the Austrian karateka prevailed at home, only a few months before winning the World title at the World Championships in Linz in 2016.
