The fourth event of the season of Karate’s most massive event for youngsters is held in Cancun (Mexico) from August 8 to 11. The idyllic city in Mexico will gather thousands of talented young karate competitors who will unite to showcase the incredible strength of karate at a young age.

WHAT
- The 2024 Karate 1-Youth League Cancun is the fourth event of the season of the series of international Karate tournaments for youngsters.
- The season of Karate 1-Youth League travelled to Fujairah (UAE), A Coruna (Spain), and Porec (Croatia). After Cancun, the season will conclude in Venice (Italy) from December 5 to 8.
- The Karate 1-Youth League is a competition conceived to highlight the impact of Karate at young ages. Established under the umbrella of Karate 1, the Karate 1-Youth League is a platform for the development of youngsters in their quest to progress in the sport.
WHERE
- The event will take place at the Iberostar Playa Paraíso Convention Center.
- Cancun is an idyllic coast city located in the state of Quintana Roo.
- Mexico are fast becoming a popular hub of youth Karate, as the country has hosted major youth events over the years. Mexico welcomed Karate 1-Youth League events since 2022, in Acapulco and Merida, and also hosted the 2019 edition of the Karate 1-Youth League in Monterrey. The inaugural edition of the Karate 1-Youth League in 2018 was also held in Quintana Roo.
- In addition to the Karate 1-Youth League events, Mexico have hosted the 2022 PKF Cadet, Junior & U21 Championships in Mexico City.
WHEN
- The tournament is scheduled for August 8–11.
- Starting on Thursday at 09:00 (local time GMT -5), the competition will continue throughout the weekend until Sunday.
- The finals will be held at the end of each competition day.

WHO
- Over 700 athletes from 57 countries have registered to participate in the event.
- Last year, the Karate 1-Youth League in Merida gathered 724 athletes from 40 countries. The United States emerged victorious in Merida with six gold medals, followed closely by Chile and the host nation, Mexico, each securing five gold medals. Representatives from 19 countries went home with gold medals, highlighting the global reach and popularity of Karate.
- Egypt top the medal table of Karate 1-Youth League events this season after garnering an impressive tally of 30 gold medals in three events. Ukraine with 14 gold medals, Italy with 13 golds, and Spain and France with 8 golds each have also registered deserving performances thus far.
- No less than 40 countries have won gold medals at Karate 1-Youth League events this season, a testament to the global popularity of youth Karate.
HOW
- The competition follows a knockout format.
- The event comprises 46 categories, and it is destined for competitors aged 12 to 20.
