2019 Karate 1-Series A concludes with anticipated event in Santiago de Chile

The 2019 edition of the Karate 1-Series A comes to an end this weekend with the final event of the season to be held in Santiago (Chile). Karatekas from all over the world are travelling to the capital city of the South American country to show their abilities and to improve their status in the quest to the Olympic qualification. 

The 2019 edition of the Karate 1-Series A comes to an end this weekend with the final event of the season to be held in Santiago (Chile). Karatekas from all over the world are travelling to the capital city of the South American country to show their abilities and to improve their status in the quest to the Olympic qualification. 

Over 800 competitors from 72 countries have confirmed their participation in the closing event of the season of Karate 1-Series A. Local karatekas present the largest delegations with 129 representatives followed by Brazil with 74 competitors and Japan with 63 athletes. 

Among the top karatekas aiming for gold in Santiago, the event will have the participation of six current World champions, such as Dorota Banaszcyk of Poland, Jovana Prekovic of Serbia, Irina Zaretska of Azerbaijan, Eleni Chatziladou of Greece, Angelo Crescenzo of Italy and Ivan Kvesic of Croatia. 

Additionally, the event will be attended by six current World ranking leaders: Serap Ozcelik of Turkey, Anzhelika Terliuga of Ukraine, Xiaoyan Yin of China, Elena Quirici of Switzerland, Angelo Crescenzo of Italy, and Ugur Aktas of Turkey. 

The tournament in Santiago de Chile will wrap up the season of Karate 1-Series A that have taken the best karate to Salzburg (Austria), Istanbul (Turkey) and Montreal (Canada). An average of 1251 competitors from 84 countries have registered to participate in the series of events. Iranian representatives with eight gold medals and Turkish karatekas with six golds are thus far leading the competition, with athletes from 16 different countries reaching the top of the podium in the three previous events. 

The Karate 1-Series A Santiago is scheduled to start on Friday, September 20 at 09:00 (local time). The finals will be held on Sunday, September 22.
