Karate in the 2015 European Games

The WKF President Antonio Espinós, in his quality of European Karate Federation President, has travelled to Baku (Azerbaijan) to officially formalize the participation of Karate in the 2015 European Games. This project was approved last December in Rome by the General Assembly of the European Olympic Committees (EOC) presided by Mr. Patrick Hickey.

This project was approved last December in Rome by the General Assembly of the European Olympic Committees (EOC) presided by Mr. Patrick Hickey.

Karate inclusion in Baku 2015 allows the WKF to add its presence to this new multisport event of the Olympic cycle. The EKF proposal, to be confirmed by the EOC and the organizers, s 96 athletes in the 12 official WKF individual categories of Kata and Kumite, and considers the participation of 1 local athlete per category; the event will take place in June of 2015 and therefore the last EKF Congress celebrated in Budapest in May approved to hold the 2015 European Senior Championships – mail qualification event for these 2015 European Games- in the month of April, thus allowing the 2015 medalists to take part in the event.

 

Mr. Antonio Espinós, accompanied by the President of the National Karate Federation of Azerbaijan, Mr. Yassar Bashirov, was received and met the Sports Minister of Azerbaijan Mr. Azad Rahimov, to whom we want to thank for his kindness and acability. Also they visited the 2015 scheduled karate venue in the EXPO of Baku, as well as the Olympic Village and the EOC offices in Baku, and finally, Mr. Espinós visited together with Mr. Bashirov the offices of the Karate Federation of Azerbaijan and hold a meeting with the leadership of the NF.
